The upgrade to new LED technology in the luminaires that have been installed in our cities for decades is at the top of the agenda for public administrations, lighting designers and companies overseeing this renovation.

There are two types of interventions:
- conservation of the original luminaire, updated with new LED technology;
- replacement of old luminaires with similar but newly-built products.
These are two different presentations of the types described above.

REFITTING ORIGINAL LUMINAIRES

In its laboratories, Neri created an IP66-grade LED module with tin programmable power supply. The LED module is in die-cast aluminium to allow for optimal heat management, which affects LED lifespan. Its high technology can even be used in luminaires installed 50 years ago that would otherwise be incompatible with LED technology.

The LED module can be used in all older Neri luminaires thanks to nine different plates making it easy to mount on many different luminaires.

The following examples show the variety of interventions carried out and the possible fields of application. In Prato, interventions were carried out on over 600 ‘Light 800’ lanterns that have illuminated the historic centre since the 1980s. In the Piazza del Duomo, the LED plate was mounted on the circular lanterns that sit atop the cast-iron lamp posts.

In Crema, the ‘Refitting kit’ was mounted on ‘Light 800’ and ‘Light 801’. In the first lanterns the screens were also taken off, whereas in the second ones the screen was maintained.

In Busseto, the ‘Refitting kit’ was mounted on ‘Light 800’.
In Pavia del Friuli the LED plate was mounted on ‘Light 23’.

The LED module can be easily adapted to non-Neri products. This was the case in Albenga, Sanremo, Rapallo, but also in Grasse (France), with the restoration of the old iron lanterns that were made locally decades before.

It is often necessary to avoid intervening on the product immediately and instead to dismantle and restore it at Neri, where the new electrical equipment will be mounted directly. This was the case in Siena, where 1,250 iron lanterns from the 1950s were dismantled in batches of 50-60 pieces, and restored by Neri in its factories.

In Florence, lanterns were also dismantled and sent to the Neri laboratories for restoration and energy efficiency improvements.
