Makio Hasuike, who designed for Neri products such as Alya, Antares, Archilede Special, Hydra, Matar has been awarded with the prestigious 24th ADI Compasso d'Oro International Career Achievement Prize. Other two foreign designers have been awarded: Ron Arad and James Dyson.
Archilede Special, designed by Hasuike, was also in the final and part of the show at Palazzo Isimbardi in Milan where the ceremony was held.
We would like to congratulate Makio for this incredible achievement, it’s been a pleasure working with him. He designed for us a series of very successful products, as the beginning of a long standing and fruitful collaboration.
Compasso d’Oro
The compasso d’Oro (golden compasses) is the first design price which was awarded in Europe.
The compasso d’Oro ADI award, set-up in 1954 by Gio Ponti, has become in time the most important award in this field in Europe thanks also to the support of the department stores La Rinascente. Awards are granted by qualified international juries to design projects ranging form the interiors of cars, tools, machines, sports items, electric appliance down to editorial graphic and Web design.
People who won this prestigious design award are famous architects and designer like Franco Albini, Gae Aulenti, Mario Bellini. Andrea Branzi, Achille Castiglioni, Antonio Citterio, Joe Colombo, Alberto Meda, Alessandro Mendini, Gio Ponti, Alberto Rosselli, Richard Sapper, Ettore Sottsass jr. or Gino Valle.
Makio Hasuike
Graduating from the University of Arts in Tokyo in 1962, Makio Hasuike began his career in Japan. He worked for a year as a designer for Seiko, designing 20 different clocks for the Olympic Games that were to be held in Tokyo in 1964. In 1963, he established himself in Italy working in different fields of design, and in 1968, he founded his own studio in Milan. In more than 40 years of activity Makio Hasuike has developed successful projects for Italian and foreign companies building up a wealth of experience in various fields. Makio Hasuike & Co. works in a wide range of design: from high technology instruments and tools to fashion accessories, from small and large household appliances to furniture and home accessories, from graphic design and packaging to architecture. Each project derives from the interpretation of the evolution of the desires and different needs of various users in different contexts. Furthermore, considerations regarding the specific factors and needs of the client as well as the complexity of various factors linked to feasibility, environmental and social impact are of great importance during the design process.
