Borosilicate glass optics

Borosilicate glass is a type of glass with silica and boron trioxide as the main glass-forming constituents.

Originally conceived for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, it is a very sturdy and transparent material known for having very low coefficients of thermal expansion, making it resistant to thermal shock, more so than any other common glass. For this reasons borosilicate glasses are widely used in the construction of telescopes, lenses and medical instruments, but they can also be valuable as optics.

Neri is studying and testing this material at the moment associated with LED applied to the street lighting segment.
